Rufus’s Opera Moves To London
Rufus Wainwright’s opera “Prima Donna” — you know, the one the Met refused because it’s in (gasp) French — is being performed in London. It’s about a diva who’s turned recluse and is living in Paris (why do grand ladies — Callas, Dietrich, Deanna Durbin — always retire there to fade away?). The reviews haven’t been marvy: this one opines: “Part of the problem, I suspect, is that Rufus Wainwright loves opera far too much.” Why is loving anything too much a problem?
