The producers of this Sunday’s Oscarcast have adopted the motto: “Expect the unexpected.” But I doubt the unexpected in this case will include anything as colossally awful — and colossally enjoyable — as the 1989 broadcast, when the opening production number had Merv Griffin singing “Ive Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts!” and Rob Lowe grooving to “Proud Mary.”
