Oscars: Controversy; Meryl Gaining?
Because of the Winter Olympics delay, the Oscar season this year feels especially long, fueling the wish that the date for the ceremony could be moved up considerably: to mid-January. And you know 2010 is protracted when the late-in-the-game “backlash” involves not some juicy controversy but a producer, in this case from the frontrunner, “The Hurt Locker,” sending out outrageous emails. I’m taking heart from the fact that in a tiny EW.com poll of Academy voters, Meryl Streep and “Avatar,” not Sandra Bullock and “Hurt Locker,” were ahead.
