BAFTA Awards: Utterly Predictable
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, or BAFTAs, were handed out last night in London. The results were completely predictable, with “Hurt Locker” continuing its strong run during trophy season. Homegrown faves Colin Firth (“A Single Man”) and Carey Mulligan (“An Education”), pictured, took home the lead acting awards: cheers to London for supporting its own. At the same time, neither has a prayer in Hades of winning the Oscar. Overall, the BAFTAs were completely boring and predictable. Rex Okpodu, LW’s awards’ obsessive who lives in London, tells me: If this year’s Oscars are as lacking in surprise, it will be a repeat of two years ago, when “No Country for Old Men” won Best Pic (and ratings tanked).
