Oscar Producers Plan A Snoozefest?
Anyone who thought that Adam Shankman, the co-producer of this year’s Oscar telecast and the director of the “Hairspray” movie, would bring some show bizzy pizazz to the enterprise: get ready for disappointment. At yesterday’s Oscar-nominee luncheon, Shankman revealed that he will be using film clips rather than performances to spotlight the nominated songs. Thus, no song-and-dance gaffes for your personal all-time Oscar reel. In addition, Shankman said that the broadcast will open with a film piece in which past winners talk about “what the awards mean to me.” With such earnestness I can already hear everyone under 40 reaching for their remote. (And only tuning back in at the end to see if “Avatar” won.)
