The Latest On “Spider-Man” Musical
While actor Alan Cumming is telling the world that the forthcoming Broadway musical “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark” (music by Bono and the Edge) still lacks a definite start date because of financial issues, what I’m hearing is this: the show’s producers now have the money, but the current delay may have to do with clearing up legal matters. Apparently, when Disney bought Marvel (owner of Spidey) a few months ago it threw a wrench into the matter of legal permissions. Once that is cleared up, perhaps things may proceed. (The legal thicket has been entangled by Marvel Worldwide Inc.’s lawsuit against the man responsible for Spider-Man, the late Jack Kirby.) Unlike bitchy theatre observers online, I’m looking forward to seeing this show onstage!
