Franco Calls Daniela “Fat”; She Quits
The pictured soprano Daniela Dessi has quit a production of “La Traviata” after its director, the garish queen Franco Zeffirelli, called her fat. In reply, I can only quote the tee shirt issued after other ridiculous opera queens fired the vocally luminous but then zaftig Deborah Voigt from a production of “Ariadne auf Naxos” in London because she purportedly couldn’t fit into a costume: “It ain’t over until the little black dress sings!”
