Golden Globe Noms: My Analysis
The nominations for the Golden Globes, to be held next month, have just been announced. Quick thoughts: It’s good to see “Glee” nommed for Best Comedy on TV and “True Blood” for Best Drama. The strong showing of “Up in the Air,” the movie starring George Clooney, was expected, as was the inclusion in the Best Drama category of “Avatar,” “The Hurt Locker,” Inglourious Basterds,” and “Precious.” All those movies are likely Best Picture noms for the Oscars. Both of Meryl Streep‘s 2009 movies, “Julie and Julia” and “It’s Complicated,” were nommed in the Best Comedy category. (La Streep also got acting noms for both flicks, but I don’t think she’ll cancel herself out: she’ll win for playing Madame Child.) The pictured Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds”) and Mo’Nique (“Precious”) continued their impressive end-of-year run by scoring nominations in supporting categories. The only surprise there was the inclusion of Tobey Maguire for “Brothers.” In television categories, Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange‘s mother-daughter act for “Grey Gardens” was nomination, and maybe Drew can win this one, since Jessica won the Emmy.
