Bigelow’s Oscar-History Moment?
The most heartening prospect about this year’s Oscar contest is the strong possibility that a woman might finally take home the statue for Best Director. I’m talking about Kathryn Bigelow, who’s “The Hurt Locker” may be the best reviewed movie of 2009. Male voters will go for her because they are so impressed a woman can direct a war/action picture, and women voters will want to redress historic injustice. I don’t think “Locker” will win Best Picture, too, but a split between pic and directing awards does happen fairly regularly. Go, Kathryn!
