Jackman and Craig: A Class Act
I had a few reservations about “A Steady Rain,” the just-closed Broadway play starring Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig. But I have no reservations about the actors’ work as philanthropists. To wit: at this year’s “Gypsy of the Year” presentation at New York’s Palace Theater, to benefit the fantastic organization Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, it was announced that Jackman and Craig had raised $1,546,952 for the charity by unstinting fundraising after each of their play’s performances during the past six weeks. That’s a lot of sweaty t-shirts auctioned off to cash-waving ladies (a few gents, too, believe me). The “Gypsy” talent presentation was also great fun. Many thanks to the BC/EFA executive director, Tom Viola, and his staff for again producing a wonderful afternoon.
