“Glee” Keeps Rolling

“Glee” has become one of my guilty pleasures, but last night’s show displayed a growing weaknesses: too much schmaltz. It’s all well and good to humanize the gym teacher Sue (Jane Lynch), but her cynicism helps balance the program’s otherwise relentlessly cheery “let’s-put-on-a-show” attitude. I realize that “Glee”‘s appeal lies precisely in that can-do spirit — the way that it has assumed the “High School Musical” mantle. But there has to be a limit to the inclusive rhetoric and Moonie soppiness if this show wants to remain not only appealing but good.
