Tenn Inducted Into Poet’s Corner

Now that the Yankees have won the World Series, the place to be in Manhattan tonight is the Episcopalian Cathedral of St. John the Divine, where Tennessee Williams will be inducted into the Poet’s Corner. Williams is the first poet-playwright to be inducted into the Corner, which was created in 1984 and is akin to the one in London’s Westminster Abbey. The 7 PM event is a co-presentation with the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theatre Festival. Lots of stars will be there. Tennessee, of course, was the grandson of an Episcopal minister, though like most reasonable people the playwright tired of a lot of nonsense the church dispensed.
