Times Sucks Up To Bloomberg
Today’s edition of the New York Times was not among its finest. A page-one story blared that Michael Bloomberg has spent more money on his three campaigns for Mayor of New York than any person has spent on a public campaign in American history. The editorial page endorsed Bloomberg’s bid for a third-term in a short article that was shoddily reasoned, and that barely joined the salient issue in the campaign: Bloomberg’s riding roughshod over voters’ stated wishes on term limits in a blatant power grab. The kicker: the Times buried the endorsement in its Saturday edition, the least read of the week. People who think the Times is progressive should have their heads examined: Bloomberg is the biggest donor to New York state’s Republican party, and helped bring George W. Bush to town for the 2004 Republican convention. For the Times, it’s all about the money, and since Bloomberg is the wealthiest man in New York that is enough to justify the paper’s ass-kissing.
