“Miss Saigon” To Be Filmed?
“Precious” is one of the year’s best movies, so presumably its director, Lee Daniels, could have his pick of follow-up projects. So what’s he in talks for? A movie version of the 1989 musical “Miss Saigon” — you know, the “Madame Butterfly”-esque tale set in Vietnam before the last Americans fled in 1975. I’m no big fan of the show’s music, but maybe the contemporary parallels with that war (Afghanistan, anyone?) will give the material some relevance. My advice to Lee: cast an unknown for the female lead.
