Gustavo Bows In L.A.: Duda, Duda!
The Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles is one of my favorite places in the world to hear an orchestral concert, and I can’t wait to hear the L.A. Philharmonic there under the baton of its new music director, Gustavo Dudamel, who just did his inaugural performances: Mahler’s First Symphony. That said, I can’t help but resist the hype around the conductor. On audio and video, there’s excitement in his work; I don’t yet hear much depth in his interpretations. But he’s only 28.
