Blanchett To Do “Vanya”

Cate Blanchett will share the stage with Hugo Weaving, Richard Roxburgh and John Bell in “Uncle Vanya” as part of the Sydney Theatre Company’s (STC) 2010 season announced on Friday in Sydney. Chekhov’s tragi-comic play will be helmed by Andrew Upton, Blanchett’s co-artistic director of the STC and husband.

Also on board for the season are William Hurt, who will topline “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” opposite former STC topper Robyn Nevin; and Philip Seymour Hoffman will be helming Sam Shepard’s “True West” with Belvoir Street Theatre’s Wayne Blair starring in the production.

The 2010 season will also see Chicago-based Steppenwolf Theatre Co. stage the Oz preem of the Tony Award-winning “August: Osage County” by Tracy Letts.
