Green Day Musical: A Review
“American Idiot,” the musical based on a Green Day album, has just opened at Berkeley Rep. The show is attracting record crowds. But it doesn’t seem to be winning over the critics. Jim Harrington, of the San Jose Mercury News, writes: ‘Fans can only pray that the legendary East Bay band doesn’t continue to follow along the path forged by Elton John and other aging rockers – because the musical “American Idiot”… is really only a step or two away from composing music [sic] for a Disney animated feature.’ As a fan of both Green Day and of some Disney features, I can only say: Ouch!
