Well, At Least He’s Not In It
Michael Stipe, Tom Hanks and others are joining forces to develop a romantic comedy that will exploit the song catalogue of 1970s-era singer/songwriter Barry Manilow (pictured). Unlike “Mamma Mia,” which Hanks co-produced, the new pic will not have characters bursting into song. So what’s the story? Characters for whom “Mandy” and “Copacabana” are the soundtrack to their lives? Frankly, I’d prefer a Manilow biopic, but Barry won’t go there, for obvious reasons. Too bad: Amy Winehouse would be a great Bette Midler.
