Tyler Perry To Do “Colored Girls”
Is there any African-American movie project that Tyler Perry (pictured) is not connected with? Lionsgate has tapped Tyler Perry to write, direct and produce an adaptation of the classic 1975 Ntozake Shange play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.” Perry is also a co-presenter and exec producer (with Oprah; even she needs Tyler Perry these days) of Lee Daniels’s Sundance winner “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push‘ by Sapphire,” which Lionsgate is releasing in November. That movie used to be called just “Push,” but I guess it wasn’t mass-market enough — the Tyler Perry fans don’t like their drama with integrity; they like their drama with uplift. Will Perry take “suicide” out of the “Colored Girls” title?
