Miss V.: Pageants Promote Equality
Think those Southern belles from past Miss America pageants were ruthless? Think again. In the world of beauty contests, no geographical group is more competitive than the girls from South America. Last night’s Miss Universe proved it again, with Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza passing the crown to her fellow Venezuelan countrywoman Stefania Fernandez. Fernandez said that women “have reached the level that men are at,” and that beauty pageants promote equality by providing exposure. Really? Then where are the televised beefcake contests for guys?
