Kate To Channel Joan In “Mildred”
Kate Winslet has entered the 1940s Joan Crawford phase of her career — and that’s a compliment. This year’s Best Actress Oscar winner is attached to “Mildred Pierce,” which won Joanie her one and only statuette. (Charles Busch, who’s played Crawford-like characters onstage for years, must be livid.) The re-boot will be a miniseries adaptation based on the James M. Cain novel. Todd Haynes, who showed he could handle the demands of period-based semi-camp in “Far From Heaven,” is writing and directing. Sources said that HBO is the lead contender to get the mini.
