Spielberg To Remake “Harvey”
So Steven Spielberg’s next directorial assignment won’t be the Matt Helm secret-agent project, or the Tony Kushner-scripted Abe Lincoln project, but a remake of “Harvey.” Yes, that “Harvey”: the 1944 Mary Chase play about the invisible rabbit that was turned into a 1950 movie starring Jimmy Stewart. How the hell can they bring this old chestnut back to life? I’m guessing with special effects. No casting has been announced, though Tom Hanks is certainly appropriately wry and schmaltzy. But if they cast him they’ll have to find someone pretty ancient to play his barmy aunt, a role which won an Oscar for Josephine Hull (pictured) in the original flick.
