Between Ballet And Modern Dance
Wall Street Journal dance critic Robert Greskovic was once described by dance-criticism doyenne Arlene Croce as the “most charitable of colleagues.” Greskovic is also a tremendously knowledgeable writer, which is why I turned eagerly this morning to the Journal, to read his piece on Merce Cunningham (pictured). Money quote: “”Cunningham’s dancers became a breed of their own, precisely poised between the worlds of ballet and modern dancing.”
