“Godunov”: A Bloody Good Show
“Boris Godunov,” a play by Pushkin, has gotten a smashing production by the Chekhov International Theatre Festival, directed by Declan Donnellan. The staging, with Alexander Feklistov (pictured) in the title role, is being presented in New York as part of the Lincoln Center Festival. I saw it last night, and I largely concur with the rapturous review of it by Ben Brantley in the New York Times. Money quote: “I am hard pressed to think of a recent production that conveys with such magnificence the base humanness of those who would rule the world.”
