“Nunsense” Gross Is $500 Million!
“Nunsense,” that musical about the badly habited, has turned 25, and in commemoration has released an anniversary songbook. But the news release that informed me of that fact also informed me about something else: since the show debuted off-Broadway in the mid-80s, it has grossed half a billion dollars. Hope you didn’t fall off your rocker just now: I said half a billion dollars. That’s a lot of wardrobe mistresses washing a lot of wimples. (Fun fact: my friend Andrew Tobias, the treasurer of the Democratic National Committee, had a chance to invest in the show originally. “If I had,” he once told me, “I’d be richer than Warren Buffett.”)
