The Latest On “Night Music”
The London production of Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music,” which will come to Broadway late this year with several new cast members, is closing earlier than expected. It had posted an extension to September 5, but business fell off and now this acclaimed staging by Trevor Nunn will close on July 25. As for the Broadway production, I’ve already told you that Aaron Lazar will play Count Carl-Magnus. Angela Lansbury is still in the mix to play Madame Armfeldt (as the London closing shows, success on Broadway would be helped by the addition of a “name” known to non-Sondheimers). Marin Mazzie has been talked about for Desiree, but that’s still only talk.
