What is the best way to melt butter quickly? The microwave never melts a stick of it evenly.

The fastest way to melt a stick of butter is to cut the stick into tablespoon-sized pieces (1 stick = 8 tablespoons), put the pieces in a quart-sized glass measure, cover with paper towels, and melt in a microwave oven until just melted. Wattages vary, sometimes quite widely, so I can’t give an exact time frame, but it’s faster than any other way.
