“Proposal” Accepted At B.O.
Sandra Bullock pulled off her best opening weekend yet with the green-card romantic comedy “The Proposal.” The movie, which co-stars Ryan Reynolds, raked in $34 million at the box office this weekend. Analysts attribute the success to the chemistry of Bullock and Reynolds (curiously, there’s been little talk of her as a “cougar“: she is, after all, 12 years old than him), and to the fact that Bullock, who strikes me as charming and dull, retains a hold on Middle America, like another charming and dull star, Reese Witherspoon. My theory for why “The Proposal” worked: Betty White. The former Golden Girl was all over the media, doing her naughty-grandma act. It helped.
