New Museum Opens In Athens
Ostensibly, the New Acropolis Museum in Athens, opening today, was planned for the 2004 Olympics. But the whole world knows the true reason for this $200 million building at the foot of one of the world’s great ancient monuments: to get back the “Elgin Marbles,” which Greece contends were stolen from it two hundred years ago and reside at the British Museum in London. Chances of their return from the British? Slim to none.
