“Night Music”: Count Aaron Lazar?
With it now looking pretty certain that the Broadway revival of “A Little Night Music” will go into the intimate Walter Kerr Theatre, LemonWade can now feed you a tidbit about the casting. It looks likely that the role of Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm will go to Aaron Lazar (pictured). Lazar was memorable on Broadway in “A Light In The Piazza” and in the 2006 revival of “Les Miz.” His age (32-33) puts him a little young for the Count, but Trevor Nunn, who’s directing “Night Music,” has crafted a production (now in London) that skews young. Lazar’s casting would be good news, but the show still needs a “name,” preferably in the role of Desiree, to help ensure a healthy commercial run on Broadway.
