Biennale: Rich People’s Blowout
The Venice Biennale is supposed to showcase art, but as with other cultural blowouts favored by wealthy gadabouts and the journalistic freeloaders who truffle after them (Sundance comes immediately to mind), the Biennale is much more about parties than about paintings. You know you’ve reached the tipping point of scenemaking when Tina Brown (shown here top right with the bello Alessandro Benneton and other guests) arrives on the Grand Canal and gives a festa. Like Perle Mesta.
