“Remains Of The Day”: The Musical

With its gently nuanced plot and an unconsummated romance at its heart, “The Remains of the Day” seems an unlikely subject for a musical, but Kazuo Ishiguro, the author of the novel turned into movie starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, says he has given his blessing to a plan to set it to music. Ishiguro tells the Telegraph: “I am a big believer in musicals and I see no reason why my novel shouldn’t make a good one. Steven (sic) Sondheim’s ‘A Little Night Music‘ shows you can set an unlikely story to music.” Not to mention “Sweeney Todd”!
