“Up” Floats On Top

box600I just saw Disney-Pixar‘s newest film, “Up” last night, joining the millions of patrons who put the film on top of the box office in its opening weekend with $68.2 million in sales. I was tickled by the film, which for me especially was like watching my own grandfather become a grumpy action hero. Furthermore, that Pixar can make an old widowed man, Carl Fredricksen (pictured with house), into an action hero, and make the film wildly enjoyable for both kids and adults, and, to continue this run on sentence, give that character such a bittersweet starting point for his adventures, makes this more than just an animated film. As with Wall-E, this is a film, pure and simple, with motives and messages and well-defined characters.
