Madonna/Guy Painting Doesn’t Sell
An oil painting of naked popstar Madonna and her former husband Guy Ritchie has failed to reach its reserve price at auction. The 2005 portrait by Peter Howson went under the hammer at a contemporary arts sale in Glasgow and although it did attract some bids, they were not enough to satisfy the $23,000 reserve. The painting, which shows a muscular Madonna reclining with film-director Ritchie touching her thigh, was being sold by a private seller and auctioneer McTears had expected it to fetch up to $35,000.
