Rap Image Downsized
The over-wrought, over-wealthy image of mainstream rap is being downsized as quickly as anything else in this struggling economy, and it looks the most visible element to be toned down is the ‘bling‘ most rappers sport. Things like grillz, chains, pendants, earrings, and rings are not only becoming smaller, but accusations are being tossed back and forth in the hip-hop community about imitation diamonds replacing the real thing on many a flashy piece. The Wall Street Journal has written an article about the struggling economy behind ‘bling’, and all in all, rappers must apparently face the first cap on their spending since their early years in the ghetto.
