New York Dolls Back On Stage
When the New York Dolls first stomped and pouted their way on to the scene in early Seventies New York, their Rolling Stones template was obvious, but it was no rip-off. The band performed in platform heels, mini-skirts, and thick make-up, wrong-footing many members of the press into assuming that the group were gay. They weren’t, but that was the point: who cared either way? The punk edict in a nutshell. Anyway, the Dolls are back on stage — in London. Of course, David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain are the only original members left. Johnny Thunders died in 1991 of an overdose.
