“Phedre” Sells Out In 5 Hours
Outgoing Supreme Court justice David Souter may think that Washington, D.C. is an intellectual and cultural wasteland, but you wouldn’t know it by this news: the Shakespeare Theatre Company there sold out its September engagement of Racine’s “Phedre,” starring Helen Mirren, in five hours. The production, directed by Nicholas Hytner, will come from London’s National Theatre, where it begins performances on June 4.
