Pete Seeger Celebrates 90!
Pete Seeger (pictured) celebrated his 90th birthday last night at Madison Square Garden with many of his most famous and most active friends. Among the lineup, which lasted 4 1/2 hours, were artists such as Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Ani DiFranco, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Tom Morello, and many more. The proceeds for the epic concert all went to Seeger’s pet fund to clean up the Hudson River. The songs built upon Seeger’s constant mission to unite the voice of the people through song to stand up for the issues that matter to them, and artists like DiFranco and Springsteen certainly kept that spirit alive, bringing awareness to current issues and shouting support for President Obama. Though Seeger himself didn’t sing, the master of ceremonies cajoled the crowd and led the audience through many standards from his six-decade career.
