Herman, Newman Win Tonys
Winners of the four non-competitive Tony Awards categories were announced May 4 on the Tony Awards website. Composer-lyricist Jerry Herman, Virginia’s Signature Theatre, longtime press agent Shirley Herz, and actress/writer Phyllis Newman (pictured) will be honored at the 63rd annual Tony Awards ceremony on June 7. I’m especially happy for Newman, whose Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative is one the theatre’s great charities.
