New “Singing Nun” Film Opens
Like almost all (Catholic) school kids in the 1960s, I was subjected to “The Singing Nun,” a movie starring Debbie Reynolds about Jeanine Deckers, the musical woman who beat The Beatles to the top of the charts. (Reynolds’ video here.) Now, there’s a new film about her life, which ended sadly: in suicide following her depression, poverty, and addiction to alcohol and painkillers.
