Liberace Liberated For Broadway

liberace_broadWell, I guess they’re setting free the waxworks at Madame Tussaud’s: The ghost of Liberace hopes to set up a candelabrum on Broadway next season, with “Liberace: The Man, the Music and the Memories” aiming for a Rialto run in the fall. Show, starring Wayland Pickard as the flamboyant ivory-tickler, is gearing up for Gotham under the auspices of producers Edmund Gaynes and Nancy Bianconi. “Liberace” re-creates a Vegas showroom performance by the late entertainer. (Here’s a video of Liberace giving his regards to Broadway, for those of you who need a morning jolt.)

Pamela Hall, whose Off Broadway credits include the upcoming “Danny and Sylvia: The Danny Kaye Musical,” will helm the show. “Liberace” is produced with the approval and cooperation of the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts. No Broadway dates or theater have yet been set. Gaynes and Bianconi have previously teamed on Off Broadway outings including “The Big Voice: God or Merman?” (2006) and “Picon Pie” (2005).
