News Flash: Salinger Not Talking!
J.D. Salinger (pictured, from 1951), author of “The Catcher in the Rye,” still isn’t talking. The famously reclusive author wasn’t persuaded to break his silence by a reporter from Britain’s Spectator, who made it as far as Salinger’s doorstep in Cornish, New Hampshire before being turned away. My favorite bits from this latest attempt to flush the writer from his lair: Salinger enjoys spinach and mushroom wraps when eating in a local café; and one of the local Cornish hens providing the revelation that Salinger is “not one for chitchat.” Salinger turned 90 on New Year’s Day this year.
