“My Dinner With Andre”: New CD
Happy Days! There’s a Criterion DVD edition of this 1981 movie coming out in June. The film, starring Wallace Shawn (called a “homunculous” by Woody Allen in “Manhattan”; I guess Allen is a mere nebbish) and Andre Gregory, defines the early 1980s in New York for me as well as anything. Each time I watch it, I begin by being annoyed as hell, and then I succumb. Should one of the London-ish anarchist uprisings ever succeed in torching the entire planet, the Brendan Lemon time capsule will, I hope, survive, with a copy of “My Dinner With Andre” in it.
