“Eastern Promises” To Have Sequel

CNSPhoto-Stone-Oscars“Eastern Promises,” David Cronenberg’s look at the Russian mafia in London, was one of my favorite films of 2007. It showed us the British capital as we rarely see it (looking more like a bleak Eastern European city than the home of Parliament and the Queen) and showcased an impressively venal performance from Viggo Mortensen (pictured). Now, Cronenberg is diving back into the characters with a sequel. He tells MTV that he’s excited about exploring the picture’s twist: that Mortensen’s character, a Russian gangster named Nikolai, is really working for a British intelligence service. Can’t wait.
