James Franco Gets Big Book Deal; 1000s of Wannabe Writers Slit Wrists

images-9It’s easy to snark about James Franco: those looks (dude’s beautiful), that talent (c.f. “Milk”), and now a book deal. Yep, he has sold a collection of short stories to the Scribner imprint of Simon & Schuster. I can already hear the comparisons to Ethan Hawke. Just as Hawke was resented by writers-workshop types when he sold his first fiction, so Franco will be. But just as Hawke has genuine writerly instincts (for Crissakes, he’s a relative of Tennessee Williams on his father’s side: Cornelius Williams, father of Tennessee Williams, was Hawke’s great-great-uncle), so, I suspect, does Franco. He turned down a lot of big Hollywood paydays in order to do his next role: poet Allen Ginsberg.

  1. Did anyone actually read Ethan Hawke’s book, The Hottest State? It was just about the worst thing I’ve ever read!

But I have higher hopes for Franco. Hot people can write, too! See?: http://squareeyes.blinkx.com/?p=411

Though I heard he was a douche. Eh. I could go either way.
