Depression Cheer: Movie Attendance
For once, the conventional wisdom is true: moviegoing shoots up during a depression. To wit: attendance at the multiplex has been startled by a box-office surge that has little precedent in the modern era. I wish most of the hits (“Marley & Me,” “Mall Cop,” anything with Madea, pictured) weren’t such dreck, but if their success helps float other boats: fine with me.
