Winslet Latest “Wrong” Winner
As Jane Austen might say: It is a truth universally acknowledged that actors usually win their Oscars for the “wrong” movie. Kate Winslet (pictured), who was so good in an Austen film (“Sense and Sensibility”), is only the latest example of this phenomenon. Her perfs in “Revolutionary Road” and “Little Children” were infinitely more piercing than her work in “The Reader.” Here’s a list of many other people who didn’t win for their finest performances — Al Pacino, Paul Newman. I would add Jeremy Irons, who won for “Reversal of Fortune” but should have won for “Dead Ringers.”
