Jake, Jim To Do “Damn Yankees”
On the Oscars, Hugh Jackman said, “The musical is back!” And it appears that two Hollywood stars not known for their forays into Sondheim or Irving Berlin are in agreement. Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal (pictured) are going to star in a “contemporized film transfer” of the classic 1955 musical “Damn Yankees.” Jake will be hunky Joe Hardy, and Jim will play the devil. It’s hard to quibble with the casting. (I’m hoping for Beyonce as Lola.) I’m more worried about the “contemporized” part. Will there be new numbers like “The Devil Made Me Do It (But Steroids Helped!)”?
