Guillem To Be Transvestite Spy
This week marked the 44th birthday of French mega-ballerina Sylvie Guillem (pictured), but she didn’t spend it in idle celebration. Instead, the Times of London reports that she is ‘hard at work putting the finishing touches to “Eonnagata,” a collaboration with director Robert Lepage and the choreographer Russell Maliphant, and quite possibly “the craziest thing I’ve ever done.” It’s inspired by the story of Charles de Beaumont, the Chevalier d’Eon, an 18th-century French diplomat, writer, swordsman and spy, who spent half of his life as a man and the other half as a woman. Today, the Beaumont Society, a support group for transsexuals, transvestites and cross-dressers, is named after him.’
