“Harry Potter”: The Stage Version
It’s a good thing that Daniel Radcliffe (pictured), who plays Harry Potter in the movies, got on the stage in “Equus” (currently on Broadway). He’d be much too old to play the part in a live version — because it’s going to be years before that adaptation happens. We now learn, however, that the Potter story almost hit the stage before the screen. Director Trevor Nunn has revealed that he almost scooped up the theatre rights before the movie rights were sold. It’s just as well, though. The recent live version of “The Lord of the Rings” was such a disaster — only reminding us that, when it comes to spectacle, the theatre can’t really compete with the screen.
